Fiji is now ticked off our too do list and we are well into the Hawai'ian swing of things.Fiji was great, we spent 2 days on a tiny Island, Beachcomber, that can be walked around in about 10 minutes. Had some great times swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling. A really lush place was awesome, and we both agree that 2 & 1/2 days is the ideal time to spend on such a small island as we left having done all the things we wanted, any longer and we may have got cabin fever......
From the island we spent a day on the mainland, this was an interesting experience, Nadi town is pretty much a tourist trap with every man and his do trying to rip you off, tourists are seen as fair game and they try all sorts to get your money, luckily I had Kris with me and shes the stingiest bugger you'll ever meet so our money was safe!
That was fiji done....NEXT!
A longish flight to Honolulu via Christmas Island followed, the stop in Christmas Island was kool, the locals came out to see the flash plane land on their rough as hell runway... if you can call it that, I think a cement truck tipped over so they decided to use it to land planes, talk about swiss cheese, and dont get me started on the small shrubs growing through the cracks in the runway.... oh yeah, and the 2, very dated fire trucks with "Canary Islands Fire Service" written on the side....Not sure how they made the 10,000km journey from the Canary Islands but by the looks they drifed in the ocean. Oh and one more thing, the customs official/firetruck driver/aircraft engineer dude did everything, one man band awesome, I even saw him crack open a rusty paint tin style can of Mobil oil (sporting the old label) and pour it into a hatch in our engine, I'm lucky to be alive!
